"For those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being 'Christian' or to being part of Christianity. It's simply impossible for me to 'belong' to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else."

She followed that up with another message:

"As I said below, I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen."

Does it really need to be that public? I quit before i ever really joined. I don't think Christian implies what she said it does, either.

But I'm glad she did it in the name of Christ, though, adding that lovable bit of humour to it. 'Cause Jesus is just alright with me.

As it was pointed out elsewhere, it sounds more like she's ditching the fundies.

She dropped Churchianity, not Christianity...dropping the only denomination she's known doesn't mean she's dropped Christ.

She should know the distinction. If I remember correctly when she joined the church she tried to distance herself from her vampire series but then when the interest in making another movie surfaced, she was quick to reclaim them.

She is a writer. She wrote novels about vampires and witches. Do you recall the movie "Interview with a Vampire"? She wrote that book.
