I'm ordering the DVD of the 1981 television version of "Brideshead Revisited" this week and will probably start watching it next weekend.
Anyone interested in watching along and discussing?

Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. The Jeremy Irons one, right?

That means "and Anthony Andrews", which should get some other people's attention around here. Anyway, count me in.

I'll let you know when it arrives.
Anyone not familiar with it -- it's a fantastically sad story, well-acted, beautifully photographed, one of those things the Brits seem to excell at, and generally one of those things you should watch at least once in your life.

My mom has the 2008 movie version that I've been meaning to watch. One of the guys on the cover is cute. Can I watch that one instead?
I don't see the big deal about this Anthony Andrews fellow...

No. The 2008 film shares the name but varies so much in story that it isn't close to the same experience.

Revi, dear, consider carefully. It is a story with heavy religious overtones (Waugh was catholic) and tragic things happen because (getting into my own opinion here) of people's slavish devotion to dogma. Of course, that wasn't how Waugh saw it. He saw it as a story of the power of Grace.
And Anthony Andrews will make you cry.

And Anthony Andrews will make you cry. That is my hesitation in watching the movie. I don't need sad in my life right now. But, I do love Anthony Andrews....

Sometimes it is easier and healthier to cry over the make-believe misfortunes of Mr. Andrews and his improbably chiseled cheekbones than to cry over whatever makes us sad out here in the real world. Catharsis, I think it's called.

Oh, and it's not a 2-hour film. It's more an 11-episode miniseries, so it takes some time to get through unless you decide to forego everything else for an entire weekend.

No worries. But do keep it in mind for sometime when the mood feels right.

Mine's ordered. Though, I must confess, I've been cheating and watching snippets on YouTube.
